About this project
History of the World is an attempt to answer one simple question: where does this fit in the bigger story? A single scroll runs from the formation of the planet to this morning, with empires, wars, art, literature, science, music and more laid out side by side so you can see how they actually overlapped in time — not just as separate chapters in separate books. It's built for anyone who wants a sense of historical context: how a war lines up against a scientific discovery, how a philosopher's lifetime overlaps an empire's collapse, or simply what else was happening on the other side of the world at the same moment.
How it was made
This site was built with the help of AI (Anthropic's Claude, via Claude Code) — from the overall design down to most of the individual historical entries and their dates, descriptions and summaries.
It hasn't been thoroughly fact-checked. Dates, figures, casualty counts, and even entire events may contain errors — from honest scholarly disagreement over disputed or legendary history, to plain mistakes introduced in the writing process. Where historians themselves disagree or a date is genuinely uncertain, the site tries to say so (look for "disputed," "legendary," or hedged dates like "c. 750 BCE"), but that labeling is only as reliable as the process that produced it.
Please treat this as a way to explore historical context and get a feel for how things relate in time — not as a citable source. If you're relying on a fact for something that matters, verify it against a proper reference.
